Real hosts, real life, real stories – the very essence of tourism
Have you ever heard of a little tourism spot, Medići? I haven’t until the other day and I must admit I fell in love with Medići right away and hope to have the opportunity to see it in person. I was thrilled by the story, one I am about to tell you, wrote Goran Rihelj on Hrturizam.hr on July 9, 2016.
Medići is a small tourism village in Middle Dalmatia on the Omiš riviera, only 11 kilometres from Omiš and 36 kilometres from Split. Peace, quiet, few tourists and beautiful sea – ideal for a true vacation for those who don’t love crowds and mass tourism, yet near Omiš and Split.
Why is Medići special and unique?
The answer is simple – because of the people. Local people who took the fate of tourism in Medići in their own hands and made something special and unique in the history of our tourism. Most of the hosts in family accommodation decided on their own to make a promo movie they financed themselves, and to make the story even better, they even acted in it.
Genius, isn’t it?
The video has no actors, but local people who live in Medići and work in tourism as hosts in family accommodation. The video shows the truth, no hidden motives, no fake smiles… What you see is what you get – 100% authentic, 100% Medići.
“We thought about what we can do to promote our little village so that all in the local community could benefit and we came to the idea to film a promo video about our place,” said Frane Medić, one of 30 hosts in Medići. “The initiative started from the locals and we funded everything ourselves. Since I took over the organisation personally, I can say it is a complicated and demanding job. The video shows locals living in Medići, we didn’t any for any actors or stand-ins.” They also opened a Facebook page Visit Medići they run themselves, making us expect more great tourism stories.
Medići doesn’t offer much in terms of tourism, except sun, sea and people. Hosts who are the essence of tourism and who will tell their authentic stories. They will take you fishing in their boat and grill it later together with you. Can the experience be any better? Medići is a place with a soul and heart, and I keep pointing out that we need to be who we are and tell authentic stories as tourists want to see, taste and experience that.
I hope this inspiring and excellent tourism story will entice other small destinations to create their story, authentic story and tell it to guests.
Visit Medići, these people deserve that.
