ZET Seeks Price Increase and Police Presence in Ticket Control

ZET’s workers and vehicle drivers are once again surprised by the announced changes.

More changes may well be in the works as far as Zagreb’s ZET is concerned, involving everything from price increases to the threat of the abolition of special status in the event of a mishap.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 9th of April, 2018, some of ZET’s proposed alterations were offered to the City of Zagreb’s leaders in order to increase branch revenues and workers’ safety. The proposed changes include ticket price increases, from the current 4 kuna to 5 kuna, police escort during ticket control, video surveillance in all trams, and the abolition of privileged status for social groups in the event of anything deemed to be a violation.

The most attention was of course given to the proposal to increase the ticket price by one kuna, which ZET has attempted to justify with the idea of filling the budget, since monthly sales figures fell by 30 percent, Jutarnji list reports.

“We didn’t agree on the proposal to increase the price, because we don’t intend to increase the budget in this way, but by encouraging people to use public transport,” stated Mirka Jozić from the City of Zagreb.

She added that they did not intend to accept the proposal to abolish the privileged status of social groups in the case of a violation, either. As stated, drivers and traffickers are demanding that if someone from the social category in question (students, retirees and others) is caught without a ticket, the act will be sanctioned by depriving the person of their privileged status until the end of the year, but this idea is still being negotiated.
