Price: circa 65 kunas for CH, slightly more for Naron.
The 2015 Prović CH confirmed what I had ascertained with the 2013 harvest, grace to the gift from Clemens. If not the best, one of the best and distinctive Chardonnays of Croatia.
Having said that, I feel bad that the Prović family ruined, luckily a small quantity, it in the Naron edition, named after the ancient Greek-Roman settlement in the Neretva River valley. Sorry Monika, but this one did not work. It is caramelised with wood. A textbook example what overdone means. Overburdened with schooling. Delicate material from the 2015 harvest, which gave one of the best Croatian Chardonnays and white wines in general, burned to the core. I would love to be wrong, but would not bet on it. Never mind, experiments are necessary.
Luckily, the 2016 Prović CH kicks ass. It’s the quince and shells, the potent material, the quality of extract is responsible for the fullness experience which the noble Chardonnay has. And with fullness, energy and grace! Three qualities rare found in one place.
The created balance seems natural at 13%. A balance which will strengthen in time, while we are already savouring the harmony and tailoring of the Chardonnay, which I can pour with pride to anyone anywhere in the world. Touch of beauty.
