National Park Krka Celebrates 32 Years

“Krka has become a national and international brand and the reason many tourists visit Croatia.”

Director of the public institution National Park Krka – Krešimir Šakić – welcomed the 32nd anniversary of the national park on Tuesday at the City Library Juraj Šižgorića in Šibenik. Šakić used this opportunity to introduce the most important projects for the park, including concerns with admission, better protection, and park education for the visitors, reports Dalmacija News on January 24, 2017. 

“The primary mission for National Park Krka is the same as when it was founded 32 years ago and that is to protect the natural and cultural heritage. For local excursions, Krka has become a national and international brand and the reason many tourists visit Croatia,” said Šakić, who added that the number of guests who visited Krka after the Homeland war has multiplied.

”It is a measure of success that we, on the other hand, impose the need for change in the management of the space,” he noted, adding that a lot of guests’ interests pose new challenges which have resulted in decisions on timing and the geographical dispersion of guests at Krka. 

Among the highlighted projects for Krka is the Eco campus “Puljane” which was designed as the core for development and research activities for children and for serious research.

“National Park Krka has organized many presentations of cultural heritage and education for children through various workshops in the National Park,” Šakić added.

Šakić also pointed out that the essential infrastructure investments for NP Krka are in the area around Skradinski buk for access roads worth 7 million kuna, and the renovation of the port where guests are transported from Skradin to Skradinski buk.

In addition, Tatijana Petric – director of the National and University Library in Zagreb – presented a virtual exhibition for the occasion titled ”Past and Present of Krka” which displayed the cultural, historical and natural heritage of Krka. The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with the National and University Library in Zagreb and National Park Krka for the project “Green Library for a Green Croatia”.
