Zagreb ZOO gets a new aviary
A brand new aviary for birds from Africa, built as part of Phase I of Zagreb ZOO modernisation project, funded by the EU, will be presented to the public tomorrow, June 4, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thanks to this modern architectural design, African wading birds will have a large enclosure where they will be able to fly, allowing visitors and birdwatchers an unobstructed view of these fascinating species.
The event on Sunday will give bird lovers an opportunity to see these birds as true explorers, using binoculars and a telescope. In order to know which birds they are looking at, the educators will present the keys to help them identify different species.
Some of the rarest types of birds include endangered species, such as the tufted crane or the glossy ibis.
The educational corner will give visitors a chance to learn about birds’ nests, anatomy and the importance of bird-friendly glass and anti-collision stickers.
The youngest visitors will be able to participate in a flying simulation, where they will have to face obstacles birds face on a daily basis, such as buildings, power lines and wind power plants, while wearing wings.
