“Let’s bring the Law on Concession back to public debate!”
The Island Movement Initiative – a platform for the sustainable and responsible development of the Croatian islands, has issued a press release on the issue of the new Law on Concessions which is considered to be extremely harmful to the concession of maritime property in Croatia. You can read more about that on TCN here.
The press release reads:
In the events of the last few days when we presented our amendments to Parliament for the Law on Concessions, the session of Parliament, unfortunately, ended ambiguously and without further comments by the proponents of this law and the respect for the opinions of the public. With our efforts, press releases and the support of parliamentary representatives, we are requesting that the Law be brought back for a third hearing, involving the public in the further discussion. We want to preserve the public good and together take part in any further discussion on the concession.
On Sunday, June 18, 2017, the Island Movement has organized individual events on Brač, Hvar, Šolta, Korčula, Prvić, Mali Lošinj, and Split under the slogan “Potrubi za otoke i obalu, nek nas čuju i u Zagrebu” (Shout out for the islands and the coast, so they can hear us in Zagreb).
All islanders, citizens, organizations, shipping companies and those who love Croatia’s coast and sea are invited to join the movement at the following locations:
Supetar, Brač 10.00, Port
Bol, Brač 11.30, Zlatni Rat Beach
Hvar, Hvar 10.00, Port

A protest will also be held at St. Mark’s Square in Zagreb on Monday, June 19, 2017, at 8:30 am, inviting all islanders in Zagreb and all those who plan to visit the sea this summer to join.
Protesters are encouraged to bring beach equipment including towels, hats, beach balls, maps, and books to send the loud and clear message “Let’s bring the Law on Concession back to public debate!”
