Korcula Town Added to the ECA Seaplane Network

After ten years of trying, the popular destination of Korcula Town is added to the European Coastal Airlines network. 

As TCN recently exclusively revealed was about to happen, Korucla Town has been added to the rapidly expanding seaplane network in Croatia and Italy operated by European Coastal Airlines, the airline announced on February 26, 2016. 

Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo, will now be connected twice a day, initially with downtown Split, a journey which will take just 22 minutes. Prices start at 399 kuna one way, and the first flight will take place on May 1. 

Korucla Town is a very popular destination for tourists, but suffers from poor connections from the main cities of Split and Dubrovnik, and the ten-year contract the airline has signed will ensure tourists will now have a much quicker option. 

Korcula Town will also connect to nearby Lastovo, and attention now turns to Dubrovnik, where the airline is in discussions to have a seaport in the harbour at Gruz. Should that connection be added, ECA CEO Captain Klaus Dieter Martin has stated that he will initiate year-round connections to Bari, Brindisi, Ancona and Pescara internationally, in addition to domestic routes, which would include direct flights from downtown Dubrovnik to Lastovo, Korcula, Hvar (Jelsa) and downtown Split – a true island hopping revolution, which opens up increased travel options for tourists and businessmen alike. 

Martin also confirmed that the ECA fleet of three Twin Otters would be increased to seven for the summer season, with some 200 people, mostly local, employed in the company. The network currently consists of Dubrovnik Airport, island of Lastovo, Korcula Town and Vela Luka on the island of Korcula, Jelsa on Hvar, downtown Split, Resnik, by Split Airport, Zadar Airport, Rijeka Airport, Pula, island of Rab, island of Losinj, and Ancona and Pescara in Italy. 

Korcula is the first island to get two seaplane connections, and the only question remains – would Marco Polo have taken the flight from his home town?
