Sea Star music festival was held for the first time at Stella Maris in Umag this May.
The research results conducted by the “TIM” regional research center from Novi Sad confirmed that the premiere edition of the Sea Star festival contributed more than 60 million HRK to the Croatian tourist industry, reports HRTurizam on September 18, 2017.
The new festival, organized by the award-winning EXIT festival in Novi Sad, even increased its initial capacity and duplicated the number of festival zones in the Stella Maris resort in Istria due to the extraordinary interest. According to the official data of the Tourist Board of Umag, all accommodation capacities in the city and surrounding areas were occupied during the festival.
According to the TZG Umag data, compared to the pre-festival weekend in Umag and its surroundings, a growth rate of up to 220% was recorded. The festival was visited by more than 50,000 fans from May 25 to 28, 2017, and 93% of the festivalgoers came from outside of Umag. The host city also accommodated 85% of the tourists.
Furthermore, this survey claimed that each of these visitors spent on average €292 during the festival which was carried out on a representative sample made exclusively by guests with purchased tickets.
Visitor research shows that festivalgoers stayed on average for three days in Umag. Guests attended the festival from around 40 different countries which included the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France and most European continent countries, and all of the neighboring countries including both Slovenia and Italy. Visitors from Western Europe spent a little more than €310 in total, or €103 per day, while visitors from the countries of the region spent, on average, a total of €305 or just over €100 per day.
“After an extraordinary start to the Sea Star festival, which surpassed all expectations, a historic chance for Sea Star to grow into one of the most significant Mediterranean music festivals and one of the most prominent brands in Umag, Istria and the whole region, was created. According to EXIT’s experience, with this kind of initial energy, Sea Star will continue to shine on the European festival map,” concludes the director and founder of EXIT Festival Dušan Kovačević.
