By August 21, more than 65 million overnight stays have been made by tourists in Croatia this year.
Last weekend, 423,000 tourists arrived in Croatia. The number of overnight stays has reached more than 21 million in August and more than 65 million since the beginning of this year, announced the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), reports 24sata.hr on August 22, 2016.
Data from the eVisitor system show that the tourist season is still going strong, although the fact that the number of tourists and overnights last weekend slightly declined when compared to the first weekend in August. “Although we are entering a period when the peak tourist season begins to fade, we are very satisfied with last weekend’s data”, said director of the HTZ Main Office Ratomir Ivičić. He pointed out that expectations are that the postseason will also be very good, and therefore positive tourist data are expected in September and for the rest of the year, which will certainly be record-breaking.
Of the total number of tourists who were registered in Croatia during last weekend, about 95 percent were foreigners. The greatest number of tourists came from Germany, followed by Italy, Slovenia and Poland.
Looking by regions, Istria took the top spot with 117,700 tourists, followed by Kvarner (83,300), Split-Dalmatia County (78,300) and Zadar County (39,500). Among towns, Istrian destinations took six out of ten top spots. The greatest number of tourists was recorded as usual in Rovinj, who has been the top destination in Croatia for the last several years. It is followed by Medulin, and Poreč. Among other parts of Croatia, particularly popular are Mali Lošinj, Dubrovnik, Crikvenica and Novalja.
