May the 7th, 2025 – The Tourism Ministry is set to allocate almost 1 million euros (900,000 to be precise) to finance emergency services this summer season.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Tourism Ministry is preparing for the rapidly approaching main summer tourist season, and allocating significant funds to finance the emergency services is a big part of that. The contracts were awarded to the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) for their engagement in rescuing people, to the Ministry of the Interior for their Safe Tourist Destination project, and to representatives of seven coastal counties for financing medical aid teams during the main summer season.

“These contracts are all worth around 900,000 euros, which is about twenty percent more compared to last year’s amount,” revealed Tourism Minister Tonči Glavina.

He also pointed out that, given everything that is happening around the world and with the current geopolitical instability, 2025’s summer tourist season will very likely be challenging. He expressed satisfaction with the tourist results in the first four months of this year, saying that the number of overnight stays realised has increased by four percent compared to the same period last year. He noted that he would continue feeling satisfied if Croatia manages to repeat last year’s tourist results this year, too.

Police Chief Nikola Milina announced that more than 100 foreign police officers will also be engaged this year during the main tourist season. As the number of people physically present in Croatia increases as the warmer months approach, the Tourism Ministry has a lot to think about. Croatia’s now somewhat infamous habit of sitting back and counting eVisitor numbers obsessively is now being slowly phased out to make room for sustainable tourism in an effort to counteract overtourism, a plague that has heavily afflicted the Croatian coast and islands.

“We want to continue working with all stakeholders in Croatian tourism and security and intelligence services to have a safe tourist season this year,” Milina said. He stressed that high-level security is one of the main priorities throughout the summer tourist season, given the huge influx of people into the country at this time each year.
