The people of Split gathered yesterday to celebrate the most important thing in this life: love.
June 24, 2017, marked the seventh edition of Split Pride, a day of joy and celebration which aimed to send one message loud and clear: love is love.
Marching to improve the quality of life of the LGBTQIA community, hundreds of citizens, tourists, and passersby gathered at Ðardin to fight for equal rights and the legalisation of love. Supporters chose from colorful and witty signs that read everything from “love is stronger than hate” and “that is not my friend that is my girlfriend,” to one of our personal favorites, “is it gay in here or is it just me?” and took to the streets of Split from Ðardin to Marmontova, the Riva to Pjaca, to ensure their voices were heard.
There were locals young and old, internationals who travelled to Split just for pride and couples who found themselves here at the right time – we got chatting to couples from America, Finland, Brazil, Canada and Manchester just to name a few. The message was all the same; they were thrilled to be in Croatia and to see such an event taking place. Though Olivia and Cara from Manchester admitted that they still felt they needed to act with discretion and be conscious of not showing too much affection in public nevertheless, to see such high numbers turn out for Pride 2017 and such a positive event, it made them feel hopeful.
