Dubrovnik Airport finds itself among the top five most successful airports in the wider region for 2017.
As Dubrovacki Dnevnik writes on the 18th of January, 2018, the past year has been marked by both a rise in flights across the region and airport capacity expansions, according to klix.ba, and in the list of the 10 busiest airports in the region, only two in the wider area have failed to reach the dizzying heights of that “magical” one million passenger figure – the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica and Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport and saw the highest number of passengers pass through in 2017, a massive 5,343,420 people. In addition to the new historical record in 2017, which increased the number of passengers by nine percent compared to 2016 in the Belgrade Airport, Nikola Tesla Airport also recorded monthly records for passengers in the past several months. The biggest benefit to Belgrade Airport can be attributed to numerous low-cost flight options.
With a new record set in 2017, Zagreb Airport, which for the first time in its history exceeded three million passengers in one year, is very much deserving of praise. A total of 3,092,047 passengers passed through Zagreb International Airport last year, an increase of 11.8 percent when compared to 2016. In just December last year, there was a more than 10 percent increase in passenger numbers recorded, which was contributed to by the capital city’s magical Advent in Zagreb festivities.
Zagreb Airport opened a new terminal last year, which naturally resulted in an increase in the number of flights. Some air carriers have already announced an increase in the number of flights from the Croatian capital this year too.
In 2016, Split Airport hit the record of two million passengers, and last year Dubrovnik Airport managed the same.
Last year, Split brought close to three million passengers, an increase of more than 19 percent compared to the previous year.
Behind Dubrovnik Airport lies the most successful year in its history. Due to the new terminal opening back in May 2017, a huge 3,332,065 passengers passed through Dubrovnik Airport in 2017.
Through various reconstruction and development projects, Dubrovnik Airport aims to defeat that record in the coming years, reports tportal.
