The new connection will bring Osijek closer to 23 destinations in eight EU countries.
Eurowings will commence their first direct flight between Cologne and Osijek on July 1, 2018. There will be two rotations (return flights) per week, on Wednesday and Sunday. The Eurowings Airbus 319 aircraft will carry 144 passengers between these two European destinations from this summer, writes Glas Slavonije on May 26, 2018.
“The new line is the result of our efforts to connect Osijek with distant European cities. Every new line, apart from travelers coming and going to visit their friends and relatives, creates new opportunities for the development of tourism and the economy in Osijek, Osijek-Baranja County, and the entire region. It is important to emphasize that the introduction of this line will enable passengers to continue their journeys from Osijek to as many as 23 destinations in eight European Union countries. Ticket prices for Cologne are more than favorable and range from 39.99 euro,” said Davor Forgić, director of the Osijek Airport.
In addition to this flight, Osijek Airport and Eurowings established a Stuttgart line with two rotations a week (Tuesdays and Sundays) last year, which now flies year-round due to the excellent availability and the great interest of passengers.
Last year, Wizz Air established a year-round line for Basel, and from March 25, or from the start of the summer season, it increased from two to three rotations a week. In addition to the already operating Monday and Friday flights, Wednesday has also been added.
“So, we can now confirm three international year-round flights, which is a significant step forward in comparison to last year when we had only one. We are close to setting this year’s goal, which is four year-round international lines. I emphasize that throughout the entire year, in cooperation with the airline company Trade Air, Osijek is well connected with domestic destinations including Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Rijeka, and Pula, and at the end of March, this connection increased with direct lines to Split and Dubrovnik by Croatia Airlines.”
Osijek Airport plans to double the number of passengers compared to the previous year when 43,373 passengers were registered through the Slavonian airport.
“I would like to point out that we are aware of the wishes and needs of the inhabitants in our area to introduce other Western European destinations, especially with low-cost companies, and our efforts are going in this direction every day. We hope that with the support of City and County, we will continue to create and meet the expectations of our passengers and those who will become one of them,” concluded Davor Forgić.
